Tips on how to save money on excursions and souvenirs while on vacation

We recently took our family vacation to  Puerta Vallarta Mexico we got such a great deal on our vacation we thought let's do an excursion. When we talked to the Concierge desk we found a snorkeling excursion that would take you by boat to an island to snorkel, lunch on the beach and you go on the boat again to another area to hike to a waterfall-perfect. it was $80 per person. So we thought lets talk to the locals on the beach selling excursions and see what their prices are (I'll be honest, it was my husband's idea-smart thinking honey:) we got for all 4 of us the same excursion for $120 total-Wow! What a savings! We met a couple on the boat that got theirs FREE by doing a timeshare visit.

Our Tour Boat

We had never seen this before-pretty cool

Place we were going to snorkel

*Note-bring your own snorkel gear. Our masks came out of plastic-new,
but the mouth pieces did not and did not look that clean:0

Up close

Waterfall we hiked to you had to cross a bridge and restaurant to get too-
it was pretty neat

Bridge was a little scary-not well made-3 person maximum

Waterfall was amazing the water was cool and refreshing

Brandt was eyeing this treat from the snack bar on the boat
we got him one all the locals were buying them they must be good.
After 2 bites he threw up in his mouth and in the garbage it went-it must be an acquired taste:)

Love Brandt's hair:)

It was suppose to be 4-5 hours long. In Mexico there is something called Mexico time-I got to understand the meaning very well on this excursion:) We left to meet our local excursion guide at 9:30 A.M., walked  to the marina, got tickets and boarded the boat around 11:00 A.M. We had dinner reservations for 7 P.M. We thought perfect, we will be back in plenty of time to shower. We got back at 8:00 P.M. We were starving-we had received lunch at 4:30 P.M. Bring snacks-we wished we had:0

Tips on buying souvenirs:
When you find something you like ask how much and barter to a price you feel is reasonable.
If they don't agree...wait...they will come around to your price or pretty close:)
I almost gave in, my husband said Kim...wait..and I waited and waited and then they gave it to us for the price my husband wanted...patience pays off:)
Go to the flea markets...we usually get too much sun and it is fun to walk through the town you find the same things for a good price, almost free:) (That is what the locals said when we would enter their shops)
